Minnesota Scholastic Chess

The MSCA holds two major scholastic events a year - the Minnesota Scholastic Championship in the Spring, and the Minnesota Youth and Collegiate. We also hold smaller scholastic tournaments every month, usually at the Chess Castle.

Once your child has gained enough experience by playing in our scholastic events, they may be ready to move up to our bigger events, such as the main sections of the Minnesota Open and the St. Paul Winter Open.

Outside of the MSCA, the two main organizations which host scholastic events are the School Chess Association, and the Youth Enrichment League. The SCA holds rated and unrated tournaments during the school year, and weekly chess camps during the summer. The YEL holds rated tournaments and lessons during the school year.

If you are looking to improve your child's skill level, feel free to shoot us an email! Depending on your situation, we can help point you towards coaches, schools, websites, or other resources that will help you maximize your rating.
