The MSCA is now officially recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization!! This prestigious status enables donors to make tax deductible contributions to the MSCA. You can read more about the project particulars and survey the supporting documentation at our new “Donate” page. Congratulations to the MSCA Board on their teamwork to achieve this status. 🎉 Celebrating the 133rd Minnesota Open: Champions, Inductees, and Rising Stars
The 133rd Minnesota Open , Minnesota's premier and oldest chess tradition, wrapped up this past weekend (February 20-22, 2026) at the Marriott Northwest in Brooklyn Park, drawing a strong field of players from across the state and beyond. 🗳️ Annual Call for MSCA Board Nominees ☑️
The MSCA Board consists of 7 volunteer Directors who serve 2-year terms. The terms are staggered such that each year at our February Annual Membership Meeting we elect either 3 or 4 Directors to serve our chess community. Board members and other volunteer positions are listed on our “ about ” page. At our February 20, 2026 Membership Meeting there will be 4 Director roles up for election. Eastview High School and the MSCA proudly hosted the returning 2025 Apple Valley Scholastic, a standout event in Minnesota’s scholastic chess calendar.
