MSCA Achieves 501(c)(3) Status!! 🔔

The MSCA is now officially recognized by the IRS as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization!! This prestigious status enables donors to make tax deductible contributions to the MSCA. You can read more about the project particulars and survey the supporting documentation at our new “Donate” page.

Congratulations to the MSCA Board on their teamwork to achieve this status. The project was launched in 2025 under the leadership of past MSCA President Mike Benson and concluded in 2026 under the leadership of new MSCA President John Bartholomew. Special recognition goes out to Sean Nagle for his work on the governing documents, Scott Carpenter for his work on tech matters, and Tim Radermacher for his diligence on the many financial and operational details.

The MSCA has experienced tremendous growth these last 5 years and our new 501(c)(3) status will further propel the MSCA toward its focus on chess tournaments & education. Congratulations to the entire chess community for this important step forward in Minnesota chess history. 🙌
