The annual Girls K-12 State Chess Championship was held at the Plymouth Community Center on April 19th. 25 scholastic players competed in the 4-round event which was directed by Senior TD Sarah Wahl. Attendance was outstanding and more than doubled from last year's 11 participants.
Vivian Yang & Bami Olofinboba both carried perfect 3-0 records into their final round match-up. They battled to a well-played draw that ended with King & Rook Pawn vs King. They were crowned our 2025 GK12 State Co-Champions and then embarked on a tiebreaker playoff game to determine who would win the nomination to represent Minnesota in the Haring National Tournament of GK12 State Champions. Vivian prevailed in the tiebreaker playoff game and will have the first chance at accepting Minnesota's Haring nomination.
Other strong performances included 3 out of 4 point scores by Joshini Sudhakar & Yuno Shemesh who finished 3rd & 4th place respectively on tie breaks.
In the U500 section it was Riya Dadala winning all 4 games to capture the trophy and gain 113 rating points! There was a lot of great chess throughout the day and the chess parents expressed much appreciation for the Plymouth Community Center space, views and amenities.
