The MSCA had a great start to the new year with a strong Q1. 804 chess players participated across 6 events during what is always the busiest time of the year for Minnesota chess. This represented a 17% increase in participation from the 1st Quarter of 2023. 📈
Coupled with this growth in participation was strong membership enrollment which lifted the MSCA member count to 403. More members and more chess players combined to increase revenues by 23% from Q1 2023. Overall it was a strong start to 2024 for the MSCA and our Minnesota chess community. 🏁This strong start will now help fuel the $2,500 prize fund the MSCA guarantees for the 2024 Summer Grand Prix Series. 💸 This is a series of 6 events held from May - September at locations around the state. The $2,500 in prizes is “above & beyond” all of the regular prize money available at these chess tournaments. Online registration for 3 of the Summer Grand Prix Events is open now (St. Cloud 🌤️, Duluth/Superior 🌊, Franklin 😺🐟️) and online registration will be available soon for the Rochester event.
