The MSCA Board consists of 7 Directors who serve 2-year terms. The terms are staggered such that each year at our February Annual Membership Meeting we elect either 3 or 4 Directors to serve our chess community.
This February there will be three Director roles up for election. Two of these Director roles are "general" roles with an expectation of 4-12 hours of volunteer service per week throughout the year. Some of the skills that have proven to be helpful in these general roles include chess operations, non-profit experience, development of new programs, outreach, legal, real estate, facilities management, event planning, marketing, administration, education, teamwork and of course - excellent communication. One of the Director roles is a more specialized tech role which anticipates 15-25 hours of volunteer service per week. Tech skills that have proven helpful in this area include website development, database management, software engineering, expertise with multiple chess and non-chess applications, and the ability to innovate and use technology to improve the chess experience of our membership. This is a critical role for the success of MSCA operations and we are fortunate our incumbent Director plans to return in this tech role.
Minnesota chess has experienced phenomenal growth these last few years and the MSCA Board has enjoyed being part of the team that has helped Minnesota chess thrive in our community. If you are interested to join the MSCA Board in 2025 we encourage you to speak with one of the seven current Board Members. Nominations are due by December 31st and can be e-mailed to msca.board@gmail.com.
