The MSCA Board consists of 7 volunteer Directors who serve 2-year terms. The terms are staggered such that each year at our February Annual Membership Meeting we elect either 3 or 4 Directors to serve our chess community. Board members and other volunteer positions are listed on our ā€œaboutā€ page.

At our February 20, 2026 Membership Meeting there will be 4 Director roles up for election.Ā  Some of the skills that have proven to be helpful on the MSCA Board in the past include organizing chess tournaments, working with non-profits, developing new programs, planning events, marketing, administration, finance, legal, technology, education, teamwork and of course - excellent communication.

These are exciting times for the MSCA and our Minnesota chess community.Ā  Some of the current focus areas for the MSCA include pursuing 501(c)(3) tax status to enable donations, refreshing our governing documents which were originally drafted several decades ago, replenishing our TD pipeline, and adding a new Scholastic Chess Development volunteer role to lead our increased focus on chess in the schools.

Minnesota chess has experienced phenomenal growth these last few years and the MSCA Board has enjoyed being part of the team that has helped Minnesota chess thrive in our community. If you are interested to join the MSCA Board in 2026 we encourage you to speak with one of the current Board Members. Nominations are due by December 31st and can be e-mailed toĀ msca.board@gmail.com.
