Andrew Titus scored 8/9 points to become Minnesota's inaugural State QUICK Chess Champion on October 12th. For Andrew it was his second State Championship in the last few months as he also won the Blitz back in June.
Andrew overcame a first round 1/2 point bye to narrowly outdistance runner-up Joseph Wan by...what else...a 1/2 point. Wan had the lead going into the final round but was upset by John Blomer who had an outstanding tournament on his way to tying for 3rd place with Jackson Wahl and Charles Hua.
72 players competed for $1,400 in prizes during the MSCA's National Chess Week event. The membership can anticipate additional QUICK event opportunities in the future as the format was a big hit with a new player segment of the chess market. Noteworthy was the fact that for 10 of the 21 prize winners the QUICK was their first prize of the year. It is wonderful to have these new chess players joining and growing our community.
Also of note was the continued success of some of our rising stars. Harry Breheim, Matthew MingMing Liu, Jesse Harrison, Davids Atelbauer & Trygve Zabel all won prizes yet again.
