Team Minnesota stormed back to tie for 18th place at the State National competition in Norfolk, Virginia in late July. After getting shut out with 0 points in Round 3 the Minnesota Team was near the bottom of the standings with only 6 cumulative points. The resilient squad turned it around fast! Scoring 10 points in the last 3 rounds to finish at a solid 16 points and tie for 18th-20th place with Wisconsin and Missouri.

US Chess Results ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Alan Xu led the comeback with 3 consecutive wins in the final 3 rounds of the Barber. Everyone contributed as Joshini Sudhakar (Haring) & Tim Radermacher (Irwin) had 2 points in the final 3 games and Jordan Timm (Denker) & Ryan Zhou (Rockefeller) chipped in with 1.5 points in their final 3 games.

The team battled throughout the week and achieved their goal of finishing in the Top 20 states. Remember that all attendees are State Champions so all the games are tough as it is a room full of chess players who are used to winning. A LOT.

Final results for each player were Alan Xu 4.0, Tim Radermacher 3.5, Joshini Sudhakar 3.0, Jordan Timm 3.0 & Ryan Zhou 2.5.

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ™ Congratulations to Team Minnesota and thanks to the MSCA for their financial support! Prize stipends were awarded to these champions of our Minnesota qualifying events.
