On April 9th the MSCA published their Electronic Device & Fair Play Policy. This new policy formalizes existing best practices when it comes to key chess rules surrounding electronic devices.
All MSCA members and spectators are encouraged to familiarize themselves with this policy which is already in effect and was used for the first time at the Denker-Barber-Rockefeller Playoffs over the weekend. Key aspects of the new policy are; (1) Cell phones and watches need to be turned off and stored during games. They cannot be in a player's clothing pocket during a game... even if turned off. (2) Players cannot depart the playing area during games without the TD’s permission. The playing area is defined by the TD and generally includes the tournament hall, nearby restrooms, and adjacent hallways.
