The Jefferson Scholastic had a great turnout of 53 players on December 9 at the Chess Castle, raising more than $900 to support the Jefferson team's trip to nationals. The Jefferson team placed 1st with 14 points, followed by Amery High School with 12 points.
Newcomer Lucas Granucci had a standout first event with 3.5 points out of 5, drawing top-rated NM Troy Cavanah in a back-and-forth battle while going from unrated to 1711 for his first provisional rating and picking up the unrated trophy. 🏆️
William Henning won in U700 (3.5), Matthew Liu in U1300 (4), and there was a three way tie for first at 4.5 between Troy Cavanah, Ethan Harrison, and Cade Sigl. Troy took first on tiebreaks and Cade second.
The event was directed by Jack Bellinger and new TD Eddie Wasserman.
🙏 Thanks to everyone for participating and supporting the Jefferson team!
