Minnesota Scholastic Champions: Titus, Narayanan share K-12 title
Before the coronavirus led to the cancellations or postponements of chess tournaments in Minnesota, the U.S. and around the world, Minnesota student chess players competed in the state scholastic championship.
Here are the winners:
Masters Andrew Titus and Sammy Narayanan tied for the K-12 title, each with 5.5 out of 6. They drew each other, but otherwise won all their games. (In the photo, Andrew is on the left and Sammy is on the right. Photo by Arun Narayanan, Sammy's father.)
Troy Cavanah won the K-8 section with 5.5 out of 6.
Arvind Thiagarajan won the K-5 championship with a perfect 5-0.
Alyssa George won the K-3 section with a perfect 4-0 score.
Jeshwant Mohan and Yiping Wang tied for first in the K-12 U1200 section, each with 5.5 out of 6.
The tournament, held March 7-8 at the Crowne Plaza-MSP Airport-Mall of America in Bloomington, drew 244 players.
