March is Tournament Time!!

The Minnesota state high school basketball & hockey tournaments have been occupying weekends for the last month. March is indeed tournament time!! This includes chess as the last weekend in March will feature the playoffs for the coveted K-12 Denker invitation and the K-8 Barber invitation. 12 of Minnesota's top scholastic chess players will be competing for the opportunity to travel to California in late July to compete in the Annual National Invitational Events (Denker, Barber, Rockefeller, Haring, and Irwin). The Minnesota Team hopes to improve on their 37th place finish (of the 50 states) from 2021 when the team scored 10 of a possible 24 points. The Denker & Barber playoffs will take place at the Castle Chess Club in Bloomington on March 26 & 27. The following weekend will feature the Haring Qualifier at the Castle Chess Club on April 2 for K-12 girls. Already determined are the Minnesota representatives for the K-5 Rockefeller and the Senior 50+ Irwin events.

You can check out the participants and pairings for these events on the MSCA home page...along with all of the final 2022 individual and team results from the Scholastic State Championships.
